One day on from my Community Server Install
I'm not sure what I'm going to do with this site - I haven't been known as a great blogger on madprops, pretty sporadic really.
So how was the install process?
Well apart from a couple of very minor hiccups due to my inexperience, it was very smooth. Luckily I had mabster around and he could point out a few items I needed to add to my web.config due to our host, and that was about it.
I've set this up as a Single User blog following the instructions I stumbled over at the Community Server forums thanks to Scott Watermasysk.
So, I'm still moving in obviously, but it's a great interface... very smooth and easy to set up and I had no problems working my way through the menu trying out different options to get the place set up the way I want it.
It'll still be a learning experience but so far so good!
I'm not even sure how I'll skin it, to be honest the default skin as it looks now is pretty great. I guess I might play around with some colours to begin with and add a few bits of functionality, like del.icio.us and last.fm and we'll go from there.
I've only come across one small piece of buggyness:
Basically it is showing a NaN error for a division of zero on the Forums Moderation Statistics page. But that's obviously because I have no threads and no moderators.
So I guess when you have no data in there, a statistics page isn't all that informative or necessary anyway - and if you do you won't get that error!
I'll still be logging it on through with Telligent, but yeah, for that to be the only issue I've come across so far, I'm pretty pleased with Community Server 2007 so far and I highly recommend getting it or upgrading to it.
The installation probably took me around half an hour (allowing for a minor bit of stupidity on my part with host setup) and was almost fully automated.
You really can't ask for a better experience than that.

Thanks for the heads-up --- we'll get this fixed!
